Not Today Devil

Not Today Devil
MARCH 5, 2023 /
Do you ever wake up feeling like, “Lord, I just can’t. I dont have the strength to do this day.” You find yourself looking anxiously for the day to end so that hopefully tomorrow will be better. But then tomorrow comes, and you repeat, repeat…???

I once heard a pastor say during the pandemic that if you wait for your circumstances to change before you start living, you’ll never live and never have joy. It really impacted me.

I can’t wait for my thyroid disease to get better and make me have more energy. I can’t wait for the people around me to change. I can’t wait for the culture or the world to change. I have to choose to get up, surrender all my weaknesses and fears at the feet of Jesus, and then start walking. Sometimes, I feel like I have to force this body of mine to walk down the hall or do the simplest of things. But Jesus always shows up in my obedience to get up and try. He always strengthens me and gets me through my day.

The more I learn to give my fears, my battles, and my weaknesses to Jesus. The more I experience His power and strength working in me. It’s in the tiny things that I notice Him the most. Like helping me stay calm in a stressful situation. Or helping me take the negative thoughts that the devil tries to poison me with and reject them, replacing them with positive thoughts.

But I also learned that it is not always easy. Walking in freedom is never easy. It’s a choice. It’s a daily act of my will to cry out to Jesus and give him my junk, and ask Him to replace it with His abilities. It’s a choice to equip myself with the tools necessary to win the battles.

The tools I use are The Word of God – I read it, believe it, and apply to my life litterally. I write verses out and hang them up all of my walls so I can see it all the time.

Another tool I use is prayer. Prayer is talking out loud to God about everything. It doesn’t always look pretty, and it doesn’t always happen in a quiet place. Sometimes, it’s me on my knees in the living room, crying and begging God to give me a breakthrough. Or it’s me washing dishes and talking outloud to God about the many things on my mind.

For those times that I just don’t have the words and my mind is too tired or overwhelmed to read or pray, I use another powerful tool. I use worship and praise music!! I turn on YouTube worship on my TV and turn it up! Filling the atmosphere of my house with worship. Did you know that demons flee when we begin to sing to God? Oftentimes, the Holy Spirit will use the worship music to break up the hard places of my heart and help draw out of me the words, the struggles, the things I need to surrender to Jesus.

The Holy Spirit always meets us when we cry out to Jesus. He is always teaching us and healing us one day at a time, one step at a time.

Stop comparing yourself to others and stop letting your fears keep you a prisoner of sorrow. It’s time to start living…..its time to start enjoying life even if the circumstances have not changed. Just call out to Jesus….He will help you.

Each day is a fresh start. A new beginning. An opportunity to write a better story. The good news is that your story doesn’t have to look like anyone else. Let’s choose to let Jesus be the author and the sustainer. Let’s choose victory over defeat. Let’s choose joy over sorrow. Let’s reject the devil in Jesus’ name and tell him, not today!

Psalm 20:2 NKJV — May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion;

Psalm 31:24 NKJV — Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.

Psalm 41:3 NKJV — The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV — Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Isaiah 58:11 NKJV — The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV — You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
